4/20/20: Long-Term Effects of COVID-19 on College Admissions (Seattle Times)

The COVID-19 pandemic will forever modify the college application process for rising high school seniors. For the class of 2020, for example, the universal “intent to enroll” date (historically, May 1) has been extended to June 1. Unprecedented. Of course, seniors who have already accepted their admissions into a college of their choice understand that that is conditional—based on Senior spring semester 2 grades (adios, senioritis). Due to COVID-19 and the growing pains of digital learning, several colleges are adjusting expectations when it comes to final grades and AP exams (truly “optional” for seniors—they’ll even refund your money).
