Treat #5: Visit Schools on Your List

Happy Halloween! No tricks here. Today’s treat will help you streamline all information that you’ve identified and collected over the past few days. If you’re just tuning in, here’s a brief recap of the treats we’ve shared over the past week.

Treat #1: Trust the Journey

Treat #2: Values

Treat #3: Mine for Meaning

Treat #4: Compile Your List

Be sure and check out previous blog posts to learn more about the treats above, depending on where you are in the school search process.

Today, we want to share what to look for as you visit schools on your list. By now, your “short list” should have about 4-6 schools written on it.

• On your Ravenna portal, add those schools to your profile so you can access upcoming Open House dates.

• As a family, visit all schools on your short list. Open Houses give prospective families a broad overview of campus life by providing a snapshot of programs and offerings. This experience allow your family to spend some quality time on campus.

• Arrange to take small group tours (bonus if they’re led by student ambassadors!) to get an inside look at school culture, school/life balance, and student life.

• If you have the opportunity, try to spend as much time at the school and with its faculty/students as possible—go to a fine arts program (Galloway, Wesleyan, and Marist have some amazing plays on the horizon this semester). Take in a sporting event (try to coordinate your sport with your child’s athletic passions). These opportunities give you a unique perspective into school culture.
