7 Things I'm Currently Loving
One of my favorite reads from others’ little corners of the Internet is when they share their favorite items—be it books, restaurants, or Amazon buys. Today, I just thought I would do the same. This month, I’m highlighting 7 items that have found their way to my favorites list. From books and podcasts to emails and a local Atlanta hot spot, read on for the 7 things that are “sparking joy."
1. A Valuable Download. The Parent Cue app by Think Orange helps every parent do something each week to help move their child toward a deeper faith. You set up a profile with your child’s birthday and the app automatically calculates how many weeks remain until high school graduation (gulp) . They know that when you see how much time you have left, you tend to do more with the time you have now. With conversation starters and encouraging reminders, it's such an intentional platform to steward your time together well. Here’s the website that has some details and a quick promo video.
2. Encouragement for Your Morning Commute. Work Life with Adam Grant: Organizational psychologist Adam Grant takes you inside the minds of some of the world's most unusual professionals to discover the keys to better work life. Listen here. Favorite episode to date: When Strengths Become Weaknesses.
3. Practical, Tangible Tips. Eric Barker’s Weekly Email (Or “Barking Up the Wrong Tree). An weekly email that brings you science-based answers and expert insight to your biggest questions (that has been featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Wired Magazine, and Time Magazine). 4. Spotlighting a Local Gem. Are you local to the Atlanta area? I’ve been loving these Author Series evening events at the Atlanta History Center. As a historical fiction enthusiast, I’ve earmarked those events on my calendar. Martha Hall Kelly, you were fabulous! The next event I’m looking forward to is Colson Whitehead unpacking “The Nickel Boys” on July 22nd. Find more information and book your tickets here:
5. Know Yourself Better. The Ennegram! As someone who scoops up all the personality assessments and typecasting available, I was giddy to read Ian Morgan Cron’s latest book The Road Back to You, which puts some tangible vernacular about the latest psychological evaluation, the ennegram. Despite its ancient roots (it’s attributed to a 4th-century Christian mystic from Alexandria), this model of human psyche asserts that there are 9 universal personality types and that by more fully understanding our strengths and area of improvement, we can leverage this information to gain insights in interpersonal-dynamics and relationships. Take the assessment here.
6. Talk about Happy Mail. Love getting Field Notes from our philanthropic partner, Executive Director Grace Moyd of Thrive, during her time meeting with strategic partners in Singida, Tanzania.
7. On My Nightstand. So many books (a telltale sign it’s summer) are stacked strategically (precariously) on my bedside table these days. Some of my favorites this week are: “ScreamFree Parenting” by Hal Edward Runkle and “Fervant” by Priscilla Shirer.
