Rainy Day Activities
Rain, Rain, Go Away
It seems like this rain is never-ending! Still, rainy days call for cozy nights in--and opportunities to tackle your to-do list. Take a look at items your student can tackle (including ways to bond as a family). More ideas on our social media!
Middle-Schoolers:
• Organize your binder and backpack. Yes, really.
• File away those returned papers and tests. I love this system outlined here.
• Choose a "just for fun" book. Maybe coordinate it with a film adaptation.
• Start researching summer camps and activities.
• Get involved in a volunteering project. Raising awareness of issues that plague our city are a tangible place to start.
• Start a Family Book Club.
• Make an account on Duo Lingo and practice a new language for just 15 minutes every day.
• Write a handwritten thank-you note to someone who has encouraged you this week.
• Plan your dream summer vacation. Plot out itinerary, budget, and research must-see sites.
• Board Game Night!
Freshmen:
• Sign up for the ACT or SAT this summer.
• Plan your summer--job, volunteering, camp, internship? Apps open soon.
• Check in with your school counselor. Seriously.
• Build an after-school routine. Stick to it.
Sophomores:
• Taking any APs? See if some SAT Subject Tests coordinate with your exam schedule. #WorkSmarterNotHarder
• Start doing some "light research" when it comes to colleges and programs.
• Take the #StrengthFinders assessment.
• Read for fun. You haven't had time recently--carve out just half an hour and get lost in a book again.
• Brainstorm about summer--internship, job?
• Build a Personal Advisory Board--4-5 key mentors who speak life in you and fill your cup. They were remain indispensable during stressful seasons coming up. Coordinate meeting with one mentor once a month.
• Volunteer. School is stressful--get outside of yourself for just a couple hours. Expand your horizons and help someone else.
• Review some fundamental math. We know you're in Honors Geometry or Algebra II. Still, good old fashioned percentages, fractions, times tables, long division, basic 2-step operations are going to be your friend in the ACT/SAT prep world.
Juniors:
• Research some colleges and start planning campus visit over school breaks.
• Start working your way through "Books Every High School Graduate Should Read (WSJ).
• Nail down a great summer experience.
• Prep for the ACT or SAT
• Read for fun (notice a theme?)
• Update Naviance. You'll thank us later.
• Create a Common App account.
Seniors:
• Relax. Call a friend. Take a walk with your dog. Soak up some family time.
• Send thank-you cards to whoever has helped you (teachers, counselors, friends) during this season.
• Nail down summer plans.
We hope that helps these long rainy days feel a little bit more productive. Praying for sunshine ahead!
