Why Can't I Skip My Daily Reading?
This famous 1987 study by Nagy and Herman is a staple in every reading/literature teacher’s classroom. I fondly remember the infographic we analyzed during my very first professional development conference as a student teacher. It’s still one of my go-to’s.
Which student do you expect to have a better vocabulary? Which student would you expect to be more successful in school—and in life?
Fostering a love of reading sets students up for both academic and non-academic success. Try to model nightly reading as a family. Make it a game, create a family book club, or take turns reading aloud to each other (depending on ages).
Above all, make reading FUN! Link in our profile for our favorite books listed by grade (for parents, too!)
