What Seniors Should Be Doing in January

Finals are over, holiday break is in the rearview mirror, and a new semester and fresh year is underway. Parents often wonder how best to support their seniors during this month of waiting. Below, we have some ideas to help your students keep on top of their to-do list:

• Scan photocopies of all completed applications and essays. Save on your computer for easy access.

• Request that your high school send a transcript of Fall semester grades.

• Give the Mid-Year Report form to your high school counselor.

• Keep grades up. If you are waitlisted, colleges will want to know what you have accomplished in the interim.

• Maintain an email rapport with admissions representatives (we recommend monthly check-in's).

• Confirm AP/SAT Subject Testing timeline. Start preparing for end-of-semester tests.

• Spend some time exploring on college websites. Look at specific major requirements, student life, community vibe, etc.

• If possible, plan an in-person campus visit. Otherwise, colleges are offering virtual tours and events this year that are valuable.
